Windows on the Past
The Windows on the Past initiative brings history to your high street! Developed by York Archaeology it allows you to hire pop-up installations designed and developed by the team behind the world-famous JORVIK Viking Centre.
Empty
retail units are a common sight on many of our high streets and in shopping
centres.
Rather than wrap the windows of empty units with graphics to create the illusion of activity, we work with city centre and shopping centre managers and local Business Improvement Districts to add something more – turning empty units into pop-up interactive 24 hours museums. Available to hire, the installations provide a vibrant, interactive and informative enhancement to any urban setting.
Our Windows on the Past portfolio sits alongside our already established touring exhibitions programme and covers the same periods: Roman, Viking and Medieval. These displays will also provide opportunities to consider and interpret the past with modern topics in mind – such as health, wellbeing, diversity, migration and identity – particularly through digital content, accessed via QR codes.
